Mission & Vision

Mission & Vision
Stitch & Hide began as a creative vision of two partners, one located in Byron Bay, Australia and the other Los Angeles, California. The mission to produce high quality and environmentally friendly vegetable tanned leather accessories, inspired by the culture, lifestyle and natural beauty of our East Coast of Australia and Southern California origins.

Launching in 2013 with a small curated range of men’s leather belts and leather wallets, Stitch & Hide quickly grew out of the limited men’s range. Due to the positive reaction from customers and sales agents, we introduced our now incredibly popular women’s line; Cassie, Paiget, Christina, Jesse and Ruby still in our product line.

STITCH & HIDE COLLECTIONS

Today Stitch & Hide carries a large but curated collection of men’s and women’s leather wallets, bags and belts plus three premium capsules; The Classic Collection, The Signature Collection and The Washed Leather.

Every Stitch & Hide wallet, bag, clutch and belt is handcrafted by skilled craftsmen in India using full grain leather of a superior grade, tanned with our old-world environmentally friendly “vegetable tanning” dyeing technique. We showcase the natural grain and markings of each individual hide, from the scars, wrinkles and scratches earnt over a lifetime. These beauty ‘markings’ are perfectly imperfect, showing its distinct characteristics, each unique in every Stitch & Hide piece.

The Classic Collection is set apart by the rugged, classic styles in natural hues and an exclusive candy stripe lining. The premium buttery soft vegetable tanned leather in this collection just gets better with age.

The Signature Collection with its sleek yet rustic vintage look and feel, is made from a premium oiled vegetable tanned leather. This collection takes pride in showcasing an understated elegance throughout the design and earthy-tones colour palette.

The Washed Leather Collection has a uniquely ‘worn’ look, an exceptionally soft hand-feel and designed to be edgy and timeless to suit every occasion.

THE TEAM

The busy and bustling office in Byron Bay’s creative Art and Industrial Estate consists of a small team working across Design, Production, Marketing and Sales. The team takes time to perfect each piece, focusing on functionality, quality and beauty. Every stitch, lining, pocket and trim detail on your Stitch & Hide leather belt, wallet, clutch or bag has a purpose for being there. We are monitoring and constantly improving our quality control process to ensure each piece being made is checked before arriving in Australia.

NEXT

We are on a constant journey to improve our environmental initiatives and sustainable procedures and practices. We are working closely with our manufacturers to ensure transparency and respect throughout our supply chain and for everyone involved in the making of a Stitch & Hide piece; from the team in Australia to the ‘crafters’ that tan our leather and sew the pieces together. We are continually expanding and refining our collection through new and on trend styles and shades to bring excitement to the Stitch & Hide leather family. Stay tuned for the next limited-edition collections and exclusive ranges to drop in 2019.

Facts you didn’t know about Stitch & Hide

  • Did you know we nearly lost our ‘Stitch & Hide’ name? In the early days, a company in the US tried to take our brand name and we had to change to ‘Stitch & Hyde’ for a few months before reclaiming our originally name!
  • Stitch & Hide forms a small team of women in Byron Bay working across Design, Marketing and Sales and the founder, Ross who based in LA – hence our signature slogan From Byron Bay to LA!
  • A very serendipitous decision: On our first trip to India to meet our new agent with whom we had spoken and emailed, he told us he couldn't represent us as he had just landed a big account. We were devastated. Luckily, he recommended his sister who turned out to be Dorris who, after representing us for 5 years and now part of the Stitch & Hide family, told us her brother would have been a disaster as our agent as he is a big picture guy not a detail operator!
